Insider trick

If you hate to wait in lines there is another trick you can do. It is called the "single rider" line. It means that you can wait in line as a group but you won't ride the ride with them. They use this line to fill in empty seats when groups of people have an odd number in the group. For instance, if there is a group of 5 people and the ride seats 6, they fill in the extra seat with the single rider line. It is a great option to skip to the front of the line! Here is a list of the attractions that give this option.

Splash Mountain
Indiana Jones

At the entrance to the ride, tell the cast member standing there you want to be a single rider. They will hand you a pass and give you directions on where to go.
California Adventure has more rides with single rider lines
Grizzly River Run
California Screamin
Soarin over California
Goofy's sky school
Radiator Racers

If single riding isn't for you, here is another tip. If the ride allows 4 in each car, break up your group into who is riding with who and if the cast member shouts out "party of 2" and one of your groups has 2 in it, skip to the front of the line. You can wait for the rest of your group at the exit. Very often the cast members are looking for small groups to "fill in" the rides and if you are willing to split your group into smaller groups, you can skip to the front.

Indsider Trick

One of the greatest insider trick is not a secret. It is called the Fast Pass. It was invented to help you get through the lines a little faster. Basically you need to go to the attraction and find their fast pass kiosk, then put your park ticket into the machine and it spits out a fast pass. On the pass will be a time frame that you can return later and jump to the front of the line. It doesn't get you to the very front, but you do skip over most of the line. Here is a secret most people don't realize...If your time frame to return says 1:00-2:00 then you can return anytime after 1:00. You do not have to go within that 1 hour, but can return anytime starting at 1:00. You can get a Fast Pass at the following attractions:
Autopia
Big Thunder Mountain
Indiana Jones
Roger Rabbits Car Toon Spin
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Star Tours
I rarely use fast passes. If the line is less than 25 min I don't bother with the fast passes.
****Star Tours is the exception. They recently updated it and the lines are very long, and fast passes run out by the afternoon. Yes, they can run out of fast passes. So, if you want to ride Star Tours, a fast pass is a great way to avoid the huge line.******

Inside tricks

There are a few tricks to the park that can help you enjoy your trip even more. One of those tricks is called a rider switch pass.
How it works:
If you have a child too small for the attraction or too timid to ride it, simply go up to the cast member at the entrance of the ride and explain who will be staying off the ride. You both need to be present to get the pass. Also, ask the cast member where you go to redeem the pass. Sometimes it is through the exit, and sometimes it is in the fast pass line. After you have the pass one of you can ride the ride and the other stays off the ride. Then when they are done on the ride, you, with the pass in hand, jump to the front of the line. The pass is good for 2 people so you can choose who to take back on the ride with you. Here is a list of the rides in the park that you can use the pass on.

Splash Mountain

Indiana Jones Adventure

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Matterhorn

Space Mountain

Star Tours
