How to keep your young children happy
First of all have snacks and drinks available at all times. I carry snacks in my backpack so that when we are waiting in line they are on hand.
Second, have a plan for waiting in line. Have something to distract them in line. Bubbles are a fun distraction and get everyone around you happy because it distracts their children too! You can also play games in line like I spy, or "Guess what Disney character I am." We love to talk about the ride and what our favorite part is. We also try to find something new on the ride each time we ride it.
Third, recognize that tired children are grumpy children! Don't be afraid to leave to park for a nap. Or if you prefer, ride the train the whole way around the park a few times. You can rest while seeing the park.
Last, have fun! Please be kind to your children and don't yell at them. It is the Happiest Place on Earth!

Tip #10

If you are planning to get autographs in the park of your favorite characters bring in your own book and pens. The autograph books they sell in the park are anywhere from $7.00-$15.00, and the pens are $5.00-$20.00. If you have the time make a cute autograph book out of a small notebook and add a picture of Mickey. Sharpie markers work the best, because many of the costumes have bulky hands and the characters can grip and write with markers best.

Tip #9
I will call this one What's in my backpack? These are the things that I carry in my bag that have come in handy at the park.
1. Bandaids someone always gets a blister and its usually me!
2. ibuprofen- really soothes achy muscles and feet from all the walking
3. Dramamine- this totally works if you get sick on the roller coasters!
4. chap-stick
5. sunscreen (travel size)
6. hand sanitizer
All of those items are put in a seal-able sandwich bag
7. Snacks such as trail mix, crackers, granola bars, small bags of chips
My children are always hungriest when we are stuck waiting in a line! Snacks on hand are always a hit!
8.dollar store rain poncho- this really comes in handy when you ride Splash Mountain!
9.tissues
10. handi-wipes
11. camera
12. Water bottle and/or soda bottle I cannot pay 3.00 for a bottle of water there!
If I take in a stroller I always put a small blanket in the basket or on top. It is great to have it to put down during the parade. It also comes in handy during the fireworks if you get chilly. It gets pretty chilly as soon as the sun goes down and a blanket always comes in handy.

Whatever you do...do not lie to your children about the scariness of a ride. This is my biggest pet peeve of all time. If you are standing in the line of a ride called, "Snow White's Scary Adventure" do not tell your child that the ride isn't scary! You will lose the trust of your child if you lie on the first ride you get on. I tell my children that the ride is a little scary, but we know how it ends. I allow them to bury their head in my shoulder if necessary, but I will not tell them it is not scary. All Disney movies have villains in them and they are usually in the ride, but in the end, good wins out. You know your child and if they are a timid, easily frightened child DO NOT ruin Disneyland for them by making them ride scary things. Utilize a baby pass and allow them to sit off the ride.

The most common question I get it, "What hotel do you stay in?" I used to have a quick answer for you but it has become more complicated as of late. I gave out the name of my favorite hotel and now can not seem to get a reservation there!
We do not need a luxury hotel when we vacation there. We go for the cheapest option because we are only there to sleep. Priceline is a great option. I have been able to name my own price around 55.00 every time. When we priceline we are not across the street and often have to shuttle or park in Disney's parking lots which cost 15.00 a day. If you are looking to stay right across the main entrance here are a list of places to look into.

Fairfield Inn
Camelot Inn and Suites
Carousel Inn and Suites
Best Western Anaheim Inn
These are not the only ones but they are a few of the closest. If you are flying in and will be without a car, these are all great options.

Know where the restaurants are in the park.Nothing is worse than being really hungry and not having any clue where to get the best food. For kids, Toon town is a great option for food. They have a hot dog stand, and personal pan pizzas. Remember that food is pricey in the park! Be prepared to pay 7-8 dollars for kids and 12-14 dollars for adults. For the adults we really like several places. We love the bread bowl gumbo in New Orleans Square, or the mexican food at Rancho Del Zocal right behind the shooting gallery in Frontierland. We have found the you get the most food for your dollar there. Also if you buy a soda there, you do get free refills!

One of the best ways to ensure a good Disney experience is to map out a route before you go into the park and stick to it. Nothing wastes more time than jumping from land to land to ride specific rides. We like to start in AdventureLand and work our way back through New Orleans square and then to FrontierLand all before lunch. Of course if you go for multiple days like we do, each day is started in a different area to maximize the first 2 hours of the day. On day 2 we start in FantasyLand and work our way to TomorrowLand. Having a plan is also important because it saves Mom's and Dad's from constantly having to answer, "Where are we going next?"

A great way to save money in the park is to take in your own snacks. There are food carts and restaurants everywhere you look, but snacks are pricey. Churros are 3.75, popcorn 3.75, cotton candy 4.00...it adds up quickly. We always pack in our own snacks. We bring in things like goldfish crackers, granola bars, fresh fruit and small bags of chips. We have done it so long that some of my kids think that riding certain rides without a bag of cheese-its in hand is strange. Your bags are checked before you enter the park but they are looking for glass bottles or containers. The only time we have been stopped is when we brought in a mylar lined lunch box. They asked us to remove the food from it and leave it outside the park. I have no idea why this caused alarm.
You can bring in water bottles, and even soda bottles. I suggest bringing in soda bottles too because they only serve coke products, and they are 3.25 a bottle. If you bring in your own water bottles they can be refilled at any of the water fountains around the park.

Tip #2
If you are planning on riding Splash Mountain bring a rain poncho with you. These can be purchased at the dollar store and stored in your back pack until you get on the ride. It is inevitable that you will get pretty wet on the ride, so you have two choices. First, you can just get wet. This is a great option if it is super hot outside. It can really cool you down. Be warned that alot of the attractions are indoors and if you are wet it does get cold. Second choice, wear a poncho. Disneyland does sell ponchos there, but last time I checked they cost 6.00 a piece. Dollar store ponchos work just as good. The worst spot to be in the log is the very front. We have witnessed waves of water showering the front seat.

Tip of the day
This is a new feature I am starting. I will give you a quick tip on how to make your trip more enjoyable.
Tip #1 ALWAYS be in the park when it first opens!!!! The first 2 hours the park is opened are the slowest! Once in your life you must be there at the moment it opens. At precisely opening time they have a person or family plucked from the line countdown the seconds to the opening of the park. It is an awesome experience. The staff sometimes lines up on Main street wearing giant Mickey hands giving high 5 to anyone walking by.
Do not be intimidated by the large lines waiting to enter the park at the start of the day. The line moves quickly and the people spread out through the park. We can typically get through 7 or 8 rides or attractions in the first 2 hours.
